How sad is it that our Human Resources director and his assistant just asked me to explain to them total gross vs. taxable gross on someone's paystub? Isn't that their job?

Some voluntary deductions - medical, dental, vision insurance, etc. - are paid pre-tax. Total gross - all the money earned - less those pretax deductions leaves your taxable gross pay. Federal and state taxes, social security, etc. are based on your taxable gross, not total gross. That would be the "pretax" part...

Oh, by the way, as of today I no longer work for the Radisson Plaza. The deal closed, we're now the Lexington Downtown Hotel & Conference Center. Same building, same people, just a new name.

So does that mean that you're job will change at all with the new additions?

Not much, just have to do an extra payroll closing cycle tomorrow to close out the 'old' hotel's expenses, then back to our regular biweekly cycle next Friday. And they gave me new deposit slips & a new check endorsing rubber stamp to use starting tomorrow.

Oh, and I'll need to re-record my voicemail message & update my email sig with the new name. And sometime in the next few months we'll be changing front office software again since our current one's Radisson-exclusive, but I don't use that much except for reprinting receipts for guests' business expenses.
