work avoidance theater @ 03:32 pm

Current Mood: busy busy

Why is it, when I have the most stuff to get done, I am least inclined to actually do it?

There's actually a psychological reason for that, involving the word "should." Mentally most people think, "I should do this" or "I ought to do that," and it becomes like the voice of our parents, telling us we should clean our room or do our homework or whatever. It incites instant rebellion, and we avoid doing whatever it is. Sometimes it helps if we make a list, then tell ourselves we will do the first thing on there, and then see what happens. (What usually happens is we get the ball rolling, and more stuff gets done.) I have problems with this, too! :-p
