That's so very awesome. ^_^ I want to knit sweaters for my pets and my friend's pets. NO I mean I want to crochet them. I don't knit! I never did figure out that sock pattern, Tracy, but one of the ladies from the knitting circle found me a book of crochet sock patterns. So I've been making socks. I shared one of the patterns with a coworker and she made a pair of socks for every member of her family. They apparently all loved them and put them on instantly. Hee. I keep thinking that toes up pattern once I get more advanced will make sense. I thought I had it figured out at one point, but it still doesn't work.

This is that pattern I was trying to use that I never showed you. See if you can make any sense of that heel. http://www.baycrochet.com/patsock.htm

Looks like a pretty standard short-row heel. It's worked flat (back & forth) instead of going all the way around. You go about halfway around, turn around & go back, etc. Keep working shorter & shorter rows over this same section for awhile (to the bottom of your heel), then the rows start getting wider and wider until you finish the heel, then you start going round and round again.

If you've watched track & field events, racers have staggered start/finish lines because the lanes closer to the center are shorter than the ones toward the outside. It takes more fabric to cover the outside curve around the back of your heel than it does to go down the front of your leg & top of your foot, so this pattern adds some partial rows to add in that extra fabric.

There's a tutorial based on that pattern here that might help more:

Hrm... the pattern reads completely different from the pattern I'm using currently. I think I was looking at that tutorial not long ago, but it still doesn't make sense. Two of the pictures are missing. Maybe that's the problem is that I really need to be able to see what they mean. I tried to follow the instructions, and it just didn't seem to be coming together. the pattern I use now works from the cuff down, and when you get to the heel, you do a flap, about halfway around the sock... about half as tall as it is wide, and then you turn the heel and use a series of decreases in a gusset to narrow and round out the opening again before continuing on down to the toe. I guess I just need to see how this works.
