armwarmers @ 11:32 am

Current Mood: accomplished accomplished

I finally finished those arm-warmers I was working on over the weekend.

I used US #4 needles and Caron Simply Soft Brites in Blue Mint, a bright turquoise.

The cable band was done first, it's from a Readers Digest book of knitting & crochet pattern stitches.

I picked up along the sides in garter stitch, with a long buttonhole for the thumb and a short-row gusset on the bottom pointing up toward the wrist to make the bottom wide enough. I hate seaming, so I picked up & made a few rows along the other side of the cables, then used a 3-needle bind off to finish it off. The bindoff lays along the pinky sides of my arms.

I've got a few days of vacation left yet to work up the pattern, then I'll submit it to Knitty. If they don't use it I'll put it up online myself somewhere.

Very nice! I love the cable you picked for it. Now I'm trying to think of how to knit it in the round since I dislike seams. :D

I can't do decent seams worth squat, that's why I used a three-needle bindoff on the inside instead. It makes a pretty neat seam, you can see the top part of it toward the left side of the second pic.

Those are cool looking! Are they just for winter use or for costuming?

They'd work for costuming, I suppose. I just got tired of my hands freezing at work all the time.
