Where there's smoke @ 06:51 am

Current Mood: working working

... there's not always fire - or for that matter, any actual smoke, either. Hotel fire alarm started up around 4am, apparently triggered by a smoke detector on the 17th floor. Security happened to be on that floor at the time & didn't see anything suspicious, but I went up with the fire dept. just to be on the safe side.

I was off work last night (night before last for you day-shift folks), apparently this was the 2nd night in a row they've had a fire alarm here.

I've got four more nights as Manager on Duty before my vacation. Hopefully there won't be any more of this nonsense before then.

Edit: Great, just great. As if waking up Plaza Club (16/17 are keyed-off floors) at 4am wasn't bad enough, now that the sun's coming up we're getting tons of heat complaints. Engineering went to check on the chillers & guess what - they're not running. He couldn't get them restarted himself, so he's on a phone conference with his dept. head. They may end up having to call in a repair crew. At least our heat wave broke today, it's only supposed to be in the low 80s F instead of upper 90s. Still sucks in a high-rise with no A/C though.

Really glad I'm on my way home any time now.

Ha! I added you to my friends after you commented on my blog, and what do I find, a hotelie! I'm an ex-hotelie :) Don't you love nights like that? And, why was it always at night? Couldn't things like that happen during the day, when the whole engineering staff was there?
