roller coaster morning @ 11:59 am

Current Mood: thankful thankful

Good news: Our van will be ready to pick up this afternoon, completely fixed.

Bad news: The final total bill is over $4900.

Good news: We paid a $300 cash deposit early on, and already paid $2000 of the remainder on a charge card.

Bad news: The remaining credit balance on that card is considerably less than the $2600+ we still owe the garage.

Good news: After a call to the bank, they've increased our total credit limit from $3500 to $5000, so we can actually pay for the rest of it after all.

It does indeed. About the only original parts left are the body, glass, interior, tires, and front brakes. The itemized bill was three pages long. The biggest single charge was labor for removing the old engine, putting in the new one, and switching whatever few parts were salvageable from old to new - 15 hours total, nearly $1100.

I'm just grateful we've managed to repair our credit rating enough over the past couple of years to even qualify for a credit card, let alone get a high enough credit limit to cover this. Two years ago, I couldn't even get a store charge card from Walmart.

I had a Sears card and a Visa in college, when I broke my ankle, and went way over limit on both of them. Between that and our student loans, our credit ratings were pretty trashed. It's taken a lot of hard work and penny-pinching over the past couple of years to rebuild our credit ratings enough to get a charge card at all. Two years ago, Walmart turned me down for a store card.
